RAINBOW FLUORITE
Fluorite or Fluorspar
Fluorite is found in a wide range of colours including , blue, pink, purple, green & yellow with often more than one colour appearing in the same stone an example of which is Rainbow Fluorite. Banding & patchy zoning of colours make it an interesting gemstone to work with, despite its relatively soft properties.
Fluorite can be found as pure veins or associated with silver, zinc or lead ores. Fluorite has a variety of applications including the production of enamel & opal glass.
Fluorite can be sourced from many localities including Canada, USA, South Africa, Thailand, Peru, Mexico, China, Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Norway, England & Germany.
The Ancient Egyptians used to carve Fluorite into statues & scarabs.
We find Rainbow Fluorite, with its characteristic purple, clear & green banding is beautiful when carved into flower beads.
