UNAKITE
Unakite is a mixture of Epidote & Feldspar . Epidote is a dense but fragile mineral which is rarely cut as a gemstone however rock made up mainly of Epidote ( green, yellow or brown in colour ) may be polished or tumbled and sold as Unakite. The appearance of Unakite is that of a mottled green with salmon pink colour coming from the Feldspar.
It is also known as Epidotized Granite. Unakite was named for its occurrences in the Unaka range of the Great Smoky region in the Blue Ridge province of Tennessee and North Carolina.
Dark green crystals of Unakite occur in the Austrian & French Alps, Italy, Mozambique & Mexico.
